Hello all. I really enjoy and appreciate Clayart(when I get the chance to
read it) Thanks. Here is a summer workshop opportunity you might be
interested in:
Fumio Shimada, internationally recognized artist of Japan will be
leading a ceramics workshop at Tacoma Community College July 15-26 in
Tacoma, Washington. A Professor of Ceramics at Tokyo University of Fine
Arts and Music, Shimada will teach techniques including high-fire glaze
decoration and raku firings. He also will demonstrate and discuss
traditional and contemporary techniques applied to Japanese ceramics.
Students will learn through practice. Translators will be available. The
workshop will be co-taught by TCC art instructor Rick Mahaffey.
This event runs Monday July 15-Friday July 26, 10:00a.m.- 4:30p.m.,
with additional open studio time in the morning and some evenings. Fee is
$285, or $315 for a 5-credit option.
Professor Shimada is widely recognized as Japan's master of
ceramics. He has exhibited and is represented in collections throughout
Japan, as well as in the Smithsonian, Victoria and Albert museums. He is a
member of the Japan Society of Oriental Ceramic Studies.
This workshop is presented by the TCC Art Department and Tokyo
