functionalist theory: the chair

I think alot of work is done and accepted in this way. In an effort to
redefine art, alot of artists get trapped in the definition and loose sight
of their original intent, wich is to define beauty. Redefining objects as
art does not constitute a redefinition of beauty. By placing an object in a
different context i.e. the museum, we may be adding to the definition of
art but we have added nothing to the idea of beauty. The chair can be
beautiful in the museum or in the kitchen or at the local dump.
