functionalist theory:intent and motivation

It is true that we "believe" there is no language to get across the idea of
beauty. This belief might lend credibility to the idea that "the truth is
in the work". Motivation and intent are both ideas that may have
significance in any approach to pots. If my motivation is to sell pots it
may not matter wether it is art or not. My intent is to sell. If my
motivation is to make the same pot with the intent to enjoy; it cannot be
the same pot. It may not be sold. The motivation and intent are different.
If my motivation is to make the same pot because I have to; it cannot be
the same pot. My intent is to express who I am. It may not be sold and may
not be enjoyed.
