Hi,
I am going to be in Portland Oregon over the 4th of July. I am interested in
seeing ceramics galleries or studios. We will have a car so we can visit
outlying areas also. I remember someone telling about a gallery in
McMinnville??
Thanks!

Hi Wendy. Other than Mother Goose, I don't know what to recommend in
Portland. As far as I know, that's the best spot there. The other thing is
the Saturday Market. This is SOME market...gobs of potters and crafts
people. Good stuff worth going to. I'm here in Astoria, 2 hours from
Portland. (2 hours from ANYWHERE) But we do have Ricciardi Gallery here (It
got mentioned in the New York Times last week) and we do have Cannon Beach
about 15 miles south of Astoria on the coast. It has White Bird and other
good spots. Bring rain gear. Bring Wind gear if you're comin my way.
Saturday am, the local announcer on the radio prefaced our weather forcast
(now coming out of Portland), with "Would you believe......" It promised an
occassional shower and sun breaks among clouds. I did the local market with
my husband. I was wearing Sorel boots and a rain suit. I was dry. He
changed clothes twice! I also packed and unpacked pots three times. Oh,
here in Astoria we have the "Farmer's Market" It goes from 9 am - 2 pm on
Saturday at the Columbia Maritime Museum ****museum emily, in the
clouds, again!

Hi Wendy. Here are some galleries I thought of:

-Contemportary Crafts Gallery on Corbett Ave.
-Greystone Gallery on the east side (Hawthorne Ave.?)
-Hoffman Gallery at Oregon College of Art & Craft on Barnes Road
-Real Mother Goose downtown at 9th & Morrison (this is really a store
but they have a good deal of interesting, locally made pottery).

Sorry I don't have a phone book nearby for the exact addresses
for you, but when you get to town, you can look them up and call for
directions.

I heard you guys had a small earthquake today. Did you feel it??

I hope you can come to Portland for First Thursday! On First Thursday
(July 3rd) most of the galleries in Portland are open late. It is
really a wonderful outing. You can browse through many galleries in the
Pearl District.......close in NW. Walk around.......We have many nice
galleries. And then on Friday......the A&E comes out (in the Oregonian
paper) and you can see what is going on in the rest of the galleries
around.
You could also visit the Waterfront Blues festival and see our EMPTY
BOWLS project.......

Welcome to Oregon.........early.........hope the weather is sunny for
you!
