I have been working with a gallery that has what seems to be a fair
agreement, 60/40, 60 going to the artist. Here in Minnesota and maybe in
other places there is an unspoken agreement that if the galleries sends a
customer to my studio that they are entitled to their cut from the sale
that comes from it. I have no problem with this, they are acting as sales
reps. and should be treated as such. My question is this, I have had a
lady contact me, which came from a gallery referral, for a sizable
wedding order, I am to be on her gift registry for the kitchen and other
furnishings. After the wedding is done and over, is she my customer, or
should I still be paying the gallery for any other orders that she places
after the wedding? Hopefully this hasn't been discussed recently. If so I
missed it. If you would, let me know how you have handled this.
Thanks in advance,

Dan...
I don't think you are obligated to continue to pay commissions to
the gallery... I think it is your option to do as you wish.. HOWEVER, you
might want to keep the referrals coming to you from that gallery by
offering them something... but unless it has been stipulated you are free
to do as you choose... Marshall

She is then your customer if she comes back to you for orders. Thank the
Gallery for the wonderful repeat customer by doing something for them.
Maybe even a gift to the individual salesperson. Treat them like the
friends they can be.
