This is a great, dependable production Geil gas kiln that's being sold
because we're downsizing our tile business and don't need such a big
kiln. Overall condition of the kiln is good. Bricks are in fair
condition. Front loading. Push button automatic spark ignition with
standard manual control valve and standard digital pyrometer. Inside
volume is 27 cu ft. Kiln will come with vent hood and duct, and various
shelves. This kiln was originally owned by Virginia Cartwright. Retails
brand new for $10,000. Starting bid at $2,900 with no reserve. Item #
1627845195 at www.ebay.com. E-mail brahma@claystone.com with any
questions.

Hello Kate,

I'm interested in this DD14 fiber kiln. Is it still available? Is
this your personal kiln that you had rebuilt just for re-sale? Can you
tell me something about how this kiln fires to cone 10 with reduction?
Does it have a pyrometer or electronic controller? Are the burners
set-up for propane? Any idea on shipping costs to zip code 04530
(ME)? I have a 46 inch doorway. Is there anyway the kiln could fit
through it (maybe by removing something and putting it back together
once inside)?

While I'm on this subject, I do have a question for the group. Has
anyone had any experience with Olympic gas fiber kilns (firing to cone
10 with reduction) that they could share with me. I'm looking for a
smallish gas kiln (10-14 cu ft) with good firing properties and good
even heating and reduction. The Olympic kilns are pretty competively
priced, my concern is quality and firing properties. Any informed
comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

Bob: I just got my Olympic DD17, a bit larger than the kiln you're looking
at, up and firing. I can echo what Kate Tremel says about the DD14. It gets
to temperature quickly (seven hours from pilots to gas shutoff at ^10),
fires and reduces very evenly, seems economical in its use of gas. The last
two firings, I've used 20 and 16 cf of natural gas. The only complaint I
have - and it's not much of a complaint - is that Olympic does not overwhelm
you with instruction manuals. There's not much in the way of written
suggestions about firing. On the other hand, as I've written here before,
the people at Olympic have been very good about spending time with me on the
phone as I got the kiln up and running. Rob Haugen is a good guy and very
patient. They'll always track him down and get him on the phone with you.
And I think the asking price is a good one. This kiln cost me just over
$5,000 two-and-a-half years ago.
Good luck with it. And if you need help when you get to firing, I'm happy to
tell you what I've learned about mine.

I am moving and I will be selling my updraft fiber gas kiln with
stainless shell. I don't need a kiln this big anymore. It is based on
the design of Hank Murrow's kilns. It lifts straight up leaving a pad
that has access from all 4 sides. This kiln is designed to accommodate
four stacks of 12 x 24 shelves with space between for bowl rims etc.
It can also be set up for three 14 x 28 shelves, also with 3 inches in
between, but access to the stack in the middle would not be so good.
You can go about 50" tall. The base of the kiln is 59" x 79" and is
made with 2 layers of insulating fire brick. It has a natural draft
burner system using two 2" Eclipse venturi mixers, each manifolded to
thirteen 3/4" stick-tight flame retention tips (26 flame tubes entering
the kiln). The shell requires about a 13' ceiling.

The kiln is located in Eugene, Oregon

Contact me directly if interested,

I have a gas kiln for sale. It is from West Coast Kilns and although its
several years old, it is in great condition. It is a front loader, down
draft style kiln with 4 gas jets set up for propane. I am asking $800 for
it, and it is located in Winnsboro, TX. I used it for a few years to fire
to cone 10. I can be reached at (903)355-3005.

I'm sorry, I mis-identified my kiln. It is not a West Coast Kiln, it is a
California Kiln Company kiln. I will figure the cubic feet today.

Thanks,
Tony
