Thank you for the answers about the propane tanks. My newserver has
been down so I have only recieved the direct e-mail messages. I will
have to go at a different way. I have gas to my house and was really
hoping to avoid new meters and all that entails. I have found out that
I have 4 onces of gas pressure at my meter. Could someone tell me how
that relates to the 6 col. in. that Nils Lou talks about in his book.
The problem I am having is the gas company has referred me to plumbers
(they don't seem to have the time to help) and the plumber is relatively
unfamiliar with kilns. The city premit department doesn't know what to
make of the whole deal and I want some assurances the deal want be
squashed after I have spent and lot of time and a sizeable amount of
money. So hopefully you won't mind to many more of these questions.
Those of you that have the time please e-mail me with any information
you have. As I said my news server is having problems.

Thank you
Jim

Jim,
There are 27.7 " water column in one pound of pressure. There are also 16 oz
in one pound (PSI) so 4 oz is about 7" wc. If you have natural gas, go with
it. It can be a little more of an expense and hassle on the front end, but
the cost per firing and ease of use quickly make up for your initial
problems. I can help you with inspectors & plumbers...deal with them all the
time. Feel free to call me about your situation....

Jim,

Keep in mind that the gas pressure will drop as it travels away from the
meter. The gas company should be able to increase your meter output and
tell you the size pipe to use for the distance involved (pipe run feet
plus 5' for every right angle bend) to get the pressure your burners
need at the kiln.
