Dear members,
I wrote a post earlier today, and hopefully it will never make the
clayart list, but if it does it will be a glaze question without the recipe
in question. I was in a hurry and late for work, and realized at the last
minute that I had forgotten to include the recipe in the information. I am
sorry for the omission, and here is the question with the recipe.
I made an error in a glaze recipe and decided that I liked it with
the mistake, now I am worried about its safety. Could you wonderful glaze
gurus help me out and tell me if I am wise to continue with this "Mistake
recipe".
Mistake recipe Cone 6 oxidation Creamy/light tan matt
Soda Feldspar 30
Dolomite 15
Spodumene 20
Titanium 20
Zinc 15

Hi Toni:
According to Insight, the current receipe is way to low in Silica. The
glaze just makes the minimum requirement for Alumina too, even without any
clay in the glaze. I wouldn't use this one for food service. I don't know
what your plans are for this glaze, but you can bring the Silica up to the
suggested amount and see how it goes. It may not change the glaze too much
aesthetically. The receipe with added Silica is below. You may want to
test this and see what you think. Without clay in the receipe, you may want
to add some bentonite, or macaloid to suspend all this other stuff. What
did you leave out that was in the original
