(The following is a nonpaid noncommercial announcement.
It is not a pyramid scheme, but I could try to make it into one
if you like.)
Hi,
Are your pots ugly? Do your glazes run? Do you want to
try some _new_ glazes?
How would you like the following:
* A database of over 1000 glazes of all types
* Available on the internet via the CeramicsWeb
and other locations
How much would you pay for that? And look at this:
* All glazes have been used in real-world
situations, not just tested once, or copied from
a book or magazine
Now how much would you pay?
But wait, there's more!
* Glazes have all the essential information
(firing range, firing type, color, surface type,
recipe, etc.)
* Each glaze has extensive notes, including where
it came from, where it's used, what problems it
has, how it should be applied, how it's typically
fired, and just generally why someone would use it
Incredible, no? And you won't BELIEVE this:
* Each glaze has a picture/test tile which you can
view with your web browser
Un-bee-lievable! You can use these glazes on mugs! On bowls!
On teapots! Even on sculptures! Make a thousand test tiles and
refinish your bathroom! You get 1000, real world, well-documented
glazes with pictures, right there on your very own web browser,
for the low, low price of only...
One thousand real world, well-documented glazes with pictures!
That's right, this fantastic database does not yet exist. But
with your help it soon could! And what will we call it? We will
call it... GlazeBase!
Yes, GlazeBase! You've seen that name before! In the last few years,
GlazeBase has brought you such favorites as "V.C. IR-A", "V.C. IR-B",
"V.C. IR-C", "V.C. IR-D", "V.C. IR-E", "V.C. IR-F", "V.C. IR-G",
"V.C. IR-H", "V.C. IR-I", and the never-to-be-forgotten "V.C. IR-J".
Yes, all 114 of Val Cushing's greatest glaze favorites in one small
package! But it's time to take this foundation and build on it a
towering monolith of glaze information, the likes of which the world
has never seen and only Gaudi himself could have imagined.
Now witness the birth of the New Improved and Revitalized GlazeBase!
Submitting a glaze to GlazeBase has never been easier! Just
tune your web browser to
http://www.tiac.net/users/rjw/gbpage.htm
for details. Fill out the easy, questionnaire-like glaze submission
form and you're all set! Check out these glowing reviews of the
new improved GlazeBase submission form:
"I think you'll find it very easy to use." - Richard Burkett
"The form worked great! It took about 17 minutes. It didn't
seem long though.... The information that I entered came back
perfectly to my email box." - Rick Malmgren
That's right, you get a free copy of the glaze form you submitted right
back in your email mailbox, no questions asked. (So to speak.)
So don't wait! Act now! Gather up that glaze recipe and dial in to the
GlazeBase page. It only takes a few minutes! That URL once again:
http://www.tiac.net/users/rjw/gbpage.htm
Small Print: we reserve the right to substitute a database
of similar content but different size if other than 1000 glazes
are submitted.

I would like to second Bob Wilt's appeal for glaze recipes and
descriptions. Richard Burkett, Rose Downs, Bob Wilt and many others have
put an enormous amount of work into collecting and developing the
collection of glazes, but they need glaze information from all of us now
to make the resource grow. There are already more than 400 glazes
collected. To do the type of glaze limit research that Brad Sondahl and
Bob were talking about we need more "tried and true", carefully recorded
glazes.
All of us have a couple of glazes that we have worked with for some time
that we are proud of, and are willing to share. Now is your chance.
Your glazes will go out with your name and photos of your pots showing
the glaze. Please take some time to visit the web page to enter a glaze
recipe.
http://www.tiac.net/users/rjw/gbpage.htm
If you do any glaze testing in your studio or in classes you will be
amazed, I think, by how useful the database and new software can be.
HyperGlaze, GlazeChem and Insight offer excellent features for analysing
recipes. With HyperGlaze recipes can be grouped together to
automatically generate specific limit formulas. Both HyperGlaze and
GlazeChem offer simple searching and sorting features to group glazes of
similar types, so you can begin to develop an understanding of what makes
a glaze function the way that it does.
But, again that only works if you have a good collection of very well
documented recipes. Please give a hand to help it grow.
