glue 4 repair of broken pottery

I've successfully repaired broken pots with "Krazy Glue Gel" (from the
hardware store). It dries clear, but if it gets wet it turns white until it
dries again so if your vase is actually going to be used with water it might
show the repair. Durable stuff: I've used it to repair the lid of a
priceless Lisa Skeen teapot that gets used almost every day and has gone
through lots of heating/cooling cycles without a sign of weakening.
Good luck.

The kind of glue that you should use to repair broken ceramics
depends on the piece. For many things super glue is an excellent
choice, but if the piece is something really valuable you should
use a water-soluble glue like Elmers White Glue. The reason is
that with the Elmers, the repair is reversible, that way if someday
you, or the museum that you leave the piece to decides to spend the
money to have a professional conservator repair the piece, you are
not stuck with a bad repair. Professional conservators are supposed
to always do repairs in a way that they can be undone, that way
old repairs don't interfere when repairs are needed again.
