Leon:I got Frank Tucker of Tucker's Pottery Supplies to bring in a ton of
Helmar from the Bray for my use in the wood kiln. We had to wait for the
clay to dry since it was apparently out in a farmer's field somewhere in
Montana. According to Frank, Michael Cardew had told him once that air
floated clay is the bain of all potters. Helmar is dried naturally. This
clay throws beautifully. Most potters change glaze recipes but I change
clay bodies and keep the old glazes. I have thrown probably a hundred
different clays but this one I know God has kept to herself.I will be
firing the pots in the next two weeks. Frank and Vic fired tests of our
Helmar body in their wood kiln and the clay looked so good you want to eat
it.
It ain't cheap but then either are your pots!
Now that I have blabbed this to all of Clayart I hope you all spend more of
your time at the computer and less at the wheel. Save the Helmar for her
and I.
Cheers,
Tony

We've been hauling kaolin from the Helmar deposit in Idaho
for some years know. It is very clean and white and needs almost
no grinding. Amazing stuff. Check the page at

for more info.
