The Haywood Community College's Production Craft Graduate Show will be at
the Folk Art Center (located on the Blue Ridge Parkway)in Asheville
North Carolina. Opening night is April 6th and the show runs until the
last weekend in May. This year there are 16 students participating.
HCC has 4 medias in the production craft program - wood, jewlry/metal
working, weaving and, of course, clay. Don't let the fact that HCC is a
Community College fool you!! The students are taught not only how to make
a pot or table or rug, but how to market it, how to design a studio, how
to repair equipment, etcetera etcetera.
If you haven't already guessed, I am one of those graduates. I am nervous
and on edge and throwing like mad. The last jury is March 26th and the
kiln at school is being fired 2x weekly, bless its little brick heart.
Anyhow, if anyone is out this way, come one by! I think you professionals
will be impressed. The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful that time of year
anyway.
