Stephen F. Austin State University (in Nacogdoches, Texas) is looking for
ceramic graduate students for fall 1997. Up to two positions are
avaliable.
Texas state universities are incredibly cheap.
In- state tuiition and fees are $244.75 for 3 credit hours and $432.00
for 6 credit hours.
Out of state tuition and fees are $863.00 for 3 credit hours, and
$1716.00 for 6 credit hours.

With a competitive scholarship of $1000 or an assistantship you only pay
instate tuition. Most first year grads get one or the other.

Studio space is avaliable and located within a larger ceramic area.
Equipment consists of: a 30 cu. foot Alpine updraft gas kiln, a 45
cu. foot shuttle kiln, a 25 cu. foot catenary arch downdraft, a wood
fire kiln (we are in the middle of a pine forest here), and various high
fire and mid-range electric kilns. The rest of the shop is
state-of-the-art with soldner clay mixers, Bailey slab rollers, fully
equipped glaze room, clay storage room, etc.

Graduate students have the opportunity to teach undergraduate classes.
They also interact closely with undergraduate students (mainly because
the studios and storage spaces are located within the main lab).
