Is a water softener adequate to correct glaze problems from hard (and high
iron--but water softener system also removes the iron) well water, or does
it just tend to compount or not affect the problem?
Thanks,
Jo.

My understanding is that water softener filter systems add sodium ions to
your water as they remove the calcium and iron. Additives used in the
laundry do the same.
Reverse Osmosis filters will remove these ions but are not as practical
usually as using rain water or Air conditioner condensate.

Dear Jo,
I'll bet you get as many replies as there are wells. My water was hard so
we put in a conditioner several years ago. Then there was the water thread
and I started using distilled water and doing side by side tests. Never
made a difference in the glazes. I have a very good conditioner and I
don't know what others might do.
