Am on a sabatical and am toying with the idea of going somewhere interesting
combined with ceramics workshops. Am open to suggestions San Miguel Allende
was one idea... Arizona or New Mexico are another.... the point is that i'm
looking for a good learning opportunity... I'm not into wheel work...too hard
on the back... so its hand building / sculptural work that i'm mostly
interested in.
Any suggestions/recommendations are welcome.... thanks

If you can go to San miguel, go! Don't pass it up, and be prepared to
wan to stay, as so many artists and writers have, from all over the
world. It is not as pure as it once was, prices are driven up by
Ameriacans who buy there. Spoiling it to a degree. the people who follow
artists around. The place was established as an artist colony my my, in
the 40's? A group of artists settled in there, one of whom was a fiber
artists, I can only think of her maiden name right now, Parker. She
taught there, and Cranbrook, other places, wrote a book that was," the
book", on fiber design. After she left, her daughter, a dear friend of
mine went after graduating from art school and stayed on 10 years, it
grew and grew, into what it is now. The place still enchants artists. I
was there in December, and met a gal on the bus (Took the bus from
Guadalajara) who went there 8 years ago, and never went home. She is a
watercolorist.
It is easy to meet people there, go to the bank to exchange money, sit
in the Jardin, you will find rug makers, toy makers, ceramicists,
contemporary, as well as traditional. It will be lovely thre now, past
the rainy season.
