Does anyone know of a glass window that could be installed in a kiln to see
the inside without opening the peep hole? snip...

Pat, Edmund Scientific sells fused silica and saphire windows.
Either one should withstand the temperature if mounted away from
the chamber as you described. At bit pricey at about $50 for a
one inch diameter window. Their phone number is 609-573-6250. Internet
website http://www.edsci.com. The catalog I have is #N971
1997 Industrial Optics.

You know Corningware? Its a pure silica glass thats melted and heat
resistant to 3200 F. Thats your only chance and more than likely that
little piece of glass will cloud up after the second firing from thermal
shock. Unless you talk to NASA your probably wasting time and energy.
Rember that the earliest potters depended on color of the fire to determine
the heat in the kiln. Keep the tradtion alive.

I recall solid fuel stoves of a few years back had windows of the
mineral mica in their doors. I'm not sure what heat they would stand,
but if you could get hold of a piece it would be worth trying.
