Hi,
I wasn't sure which group to post my query to, so I hope this goes down
ok. Posted or e-mailed responses are welcome.
I am about to try to make a set of wallhangings. They are intended to be
used as small shelves for ornaments etc and will be shaped something like
a half mushroom with its stalk. Anyway, for the purposes of this question
it is reasonable to think of them as wall-hangings ranging from 8cm X 6cm,
to 25cm X 35cm in size.
I am really stuck as to whether to make them out of clay (probably
stoneware) or plaster. Can anyone think of practical reasons for going one
way or the other? For example, is one substance much heavier than the
other?
I think I have worked out the techniques for doing either. If it's just an
aesthetic decision, then there is no problem.
Also, if I do go with clay and I use baked on liquitex glossies to get the
same colour as the wall, can I use them straight onto the fired clay, or
do I need a layer of something first?
Thanks for reading this,
Anthony
