Rolled patterns in clay can be made by creating the roller. Roll some
clay into an appropriately sized (for your design) coil. When it is
leather-hard, press something like a straw through the center to hollow
it out, then carve out the design you want - it may take a few tries or
a bit of measuring to get it exactly right. Bisque fire. Now get a
metal rod or wooden dowel that is longer than the roll and will fit
through the opening, and impress your design on plastic clay!

I have only made small rollers using paper clips for the rod/dowel. I
don't know why it wouldn't work on a larger scale.
