home made bone ash

Has anyone ever made their own bone ash?
I don't see why one couldn't calcine some bones, ball mill the result, and
have bone ash.
I can't get bone ash from my supplier.
I get "tri calcium phosphate".
Can someone tell me the practical differences when used in a glaze between
these two?

Of course, this raises some questions:
What temperature should the bones be fired to?
Will smoke be produced during the process?
Do different bones produce different bone ash,
i.e, should beef bones be used for a "sangue de beouf" glaze?
Can you write off T-bone steaks as a business expense?

Always wondering,

When I was in school in the late 70's in Kansas City Andy Martin
Calcined some bones from the stockyard. My memory was that he thought
it was way too much trouble. It really stunk, even in a gas kiln. He
did it because of a problem we were having with an Iron red glaze. It
turned out to be a feldspar problem I believe.
