Ian Currie, author of "Stoneware Glazes: A Systematic Approach" will be
coming to NCECA. He'll be staying for about a month and will be available
for workshops exploring in more detail his approach to the study of glazes.
Some of us Clayarters have been working through this approach for the last
few months and have found it to be extremely useful. It goes beyond the
math of glaze calculation to develop an understanding of the
characteristics of glaze materials and their interaction with claybodies
and firing. Beginners, as well as experienced potters, will find this
approach useful in developing and expanding a personal palette of glazes.
If you're interested in hosting a workshop or know of a group that may be
interested, please contact me.

Ian Currie will be returning to the USA in September and will be
available for workshops. Anyone interested in hosting a workshop can
contact me for details.
Ian is the author of Stoneware Glazes: A Systematic
Approach, which has been frequently mentioned on Clayart.
In a Ceramics Technical article he extended his approach to cover a
full range of firing temperatures and to make it more accessible to all
potters. Potters of all ability levels should find his approach
enlightening. He gives a fantastic workshop on glazes and glaze
making.

I can only say that Ian Currie has a fantastic workshop. We had him here
a year or so ago and it was fantastic ! Anyone attending his glaze grid
workshop will be very satisfied for sure.
Be prepared for a ton of information and lots of glaze mixing and
firing. He doesn't mess around chatting it up. It's straight forward and
lots of work. You will get ten times your monies worth with Ian.

PS- if you are a group giving his workshop; be ready to do lots of pre
workshop preparation. Don't think you can just wait for him to arrive.
You have lots of work to do making the test grid tiles and getting all
the needed equipment and materials ready. Start several months ahead.
You will be rewarded with an amazing amount of information and some
truely great test grid tiles.
