Awhile back a group of folks were organizing to do the Ian Curry book
together via Clayart. Could someone post an update on how that is
proceeding? Successes, problems

The Currie Clayart study group is alive and well. There are approximately
21 of us divided into 3 groups. Experience levels run the gamut from
beginner to 20 years or more. Among us, we have access to just about every
firing configuration. Each participant is responsible for mixing one test
and making tiles for the other members of his or her group. We're just
starting to see the first results. A lot of preparation is necessary before
mixing. The mold and tiles have to be made and materials and supplies
gathered. So, it's a bit too early to report our sucessses and problems,
though a shortage of time seems to plague a lot of us. Any body got any
extra they can share? Still, I think we're all committed to doing at least
one glaze set and hopefully we'll get through the first part of the book.
The most exciting part of doing this project through the internet is that
Ian Currie has agreed to listen in on our discussions and to answer any
questions that we can't figure out ourselves. Short of moving to Australia,
I can't imagine a better way to do the work in the book! Thanks again, Ian.
We're also starting to put IRC to good use and I expect we'll do more as
time goes on.
Discussions so far have centered around what spar and clay to use (Custer
and EPK). Some who routinely use different materials are sticking with
those. We're just making a note of that. And we've been able to talk over
the best way to make the mold and tiles and any little problems that crop
up.
Here's to all the great people who're doing this project. It's already been
a fantastic learning experience and we're just getting started!
