Lisa,

Ikebana is Japanese flower arranging. There are numerous schools (Ikenobo,
Sogetsu,Ohara etc) of Ikebana that place emphasis on a type or concept of
arrangement (formal, natural, modernistic, whatever). Check out your local
library. Practicioners of different schools look for different types of
containers. It could be a high gloss black commercial piece or a rustic,
asymetrical piece. They can range from the ridiculous to the sublime. What
one arranger would see as a perfect piece, someone from another school will
scoff at as totally unsuitable. Generally, they are looking for something
that isn't round. Frequently I'll ask a customer what kind of proportions
they are looking for, and they can be very articulate. Ikebana customers
are usually very appreciative and interesting to work with. And, unlike
most bonsai growers who want you to make something for them, Ikebana people
will actually buy what you make.

that's what it sounds like.....

ROFL. I try to get folks to at least draw what they want.
