Hi:
Has anyone ever made pots for Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging. I'm
really turned on by the concept of aranging flowers in low bowls along
with the off center balancing act of the composition. If anyone
is involved in this other art form , please tell me how you got involved
and how I can get more info on the pots used .
Thanks,

Evan

I hold three certificates from the Sogetsu school of ikebana. There are
several schools (philosophies) of arrangeing.

I'm sure that a trip to your local book store or library will give you some
more information about the art form. Beside the low style of arrangement,
there is also the upright form.

Bonsi containers are another area that could be interesting. You might have
a bonsai club in your area.

If you have a Japanese-American society near you or have a club listing,
you might be able to find an ikebana club. Another resource might be
calling your local garden centers or the county extension agent.

There is a magazine on Ikebana. My mother-in-law gave some copies
to me. The pots are stunning with the "zen" arrangements. Aftoosa
sells the spiked frogs necessary fot the arrangements.

For those who are interested,
There will be ikebana sales and demos at the Botanical Gardens in Highland
Park, NW of Chicago, Illinois on Sat. 4/20 ans Sun 4/21/96. Call the chamber
of coomerce or an ikebana club to get the exact address. Not only are the
gardens a real treat to be around but the flower arranging demos are
informative and beautiful.
