I need help in finding out what kind of pugmill would be the best for
my situation.
I teach ceramics in a Junior High and need to recycle about 150 lbs.
per week. Storage space is a consideration, as is ease of operation.
Would we be better off buying a new one, or trying to find a used one,
as this is not a major amount of clay? Also, since our budget is
flexible (it's a private school) what ballpark price should I submit to
see if it is even feasible for the administration to consider?
And if, on the off chance, someone out there does have the "perfect
pugmill" for me, I am in the Southern California area...have station
wagon, will travel!
Thanx,

Keep forgetting to write down the model number.
We have a Shimpo. It is the smaller (110v) version, they only have 2 the
other is 220v I have had it at school for 10 years now. We probably
run through about 150# a day. It has also has run through tools,
sponges, and God knows what else.
I replaced the drive belt about 5 years ago ($15) other than that it has
run like a champ. I also like the safety features, it is impossible to
operate with the hopper open. I can train a kid to operate it in 30
seconds. I would highly recommend this work horse to anybody.
Good luck trying to find a used one. I have never seen one for sale.

What you don't want is a Bluebird pugmill even though I consider it the best
pugmill on the market. It has no safety features other than a chain to lock it
up. In fact, they won't even sell it to you if they know it's for school use.
I agree, go with the Shimpo.
