Hi everyone! I wonder if any of you have interesting things you do when
firing a new kiln for the first time. We are finishing up a new raku
kiln with a counterweight system, and I want to have a little fete when
we fire it for the first time (after we test it, of course!).
Any ideas on kiln-cooked chickens, gumbo over the kiln burner or anything
else along those lines? All input is welcome!

Thanks!
Erin.

Well...I don't know about any foods, but what you need is to build a
small "kiln god" and fire it in the first firing. All firings from that
point on, you need to have your kiln guy around...:) That's the only
thing I can think of. Other things just revolve around normal party type
things with barbeques, loud music, and lots of friends to watch and help.
Raku kilns are probably the most fun. Try that sucker out and have a
blast doing it!!
