Hi Elke -

Would you mind posting a bit more info on the Symposium - where and when and
how to register, etc? Or is that info still being developed? (sorry if
this has been answered already - I couldn't see anything that looked like an
answer in the 600 or so messages I still haven't read, but I might have
missed it...)

Since I am not an official spokesperson for the organizers, this is
informal but confirmed information. As of our last committee meeting, the
symposium dates are May 21-24. A Pre-Fireworks workshop involving
kilnbuilding/firing is being considered.

The Symposium is timed to take advantage of artists who are taking part in
a major annual Edmonton Arts Festival called The Works, as well as with
the extensive artists in residence program at Red Deer College in Central
Alberta. (last year's shared artist was Nina Hole).

The forthcoming symposium has so far confirmed: Janet Mansfield as keynote
and concluding speaker and moderator of a forum, as well as slide-show
and lecture presenter.

Jun Kaneko, Warren MacKenzie, Fred Olsen (possible kiln clinic?).

Those are the major presenters that have agreed to come. Others are still
being considered to complement the program.

This has so far been a very small, intimate bi-annual event; Calgary
hosts a similar symposium in the off-years.

Here in Edmonton we have offered billeting to help with expenses. Not too
many have taken advantage of this offer because it was really not
advertized. Potters and other artists or interested hosts will simply
offer you a free overnight stay as long as you are up here. Can't guarantee
a soft bed-in my case, you might end up in the teahouse in the garden.

I don't know the registration dates yet, of course, but keep an eye out for
an updated web page. Sorry, I don't know the address right now.

The University of Alberta Department of Extension is the host.(organized
by Alfred Schmidt) Supported
by the Alberta Potters' Association and neighbouring potters' guilds.

I'll post anything new I find out, including the old wep page, asap.

Sherry: No updates beyond what I sent out recently, but there might be a
temporary web page set up soon to keep everybody posted. We'll announce
it.
