itc - cost reply to ditmar/gaayle

Thank you for clearing up my misunderstanding about ITC and
a shelf wash.

I have seen a number of products on the market that the
producers swear up and down will save energy. I have tried
over the years to find credible evidence that the coating
saves energy. The reason I am skeptical is that I have found
no justification in physics for it to do so.

When I investigated the claims I usually found that the
coating simply tightened up a loose lining (where heat was
escaping) or some other such event. I not yet found that the
soating did what proper maintenance could not do.

Having said that, it is important to remember that we can't
all perform the proper maintenance, sometimes because we
simply don't have the expertese necessary to know what must
be done. On this basis I agree with Ditmar/Gayle that the
product may have a small cost to solve a problem compared to
reworking a kiln when you aren't sure what has to be done.

My only concern here is that one must beware of such
solutions to problems. It is a lot like patent medicene in
that some are really helpful and some are worthless, and the
helpful ones are good only for a specific set of
circumstances. Although some industrial concerns may be
using the product, none, in my experience, do. Once again,
however, if it solves a problem for you, then the price is
cheap, even at $150/gallon.
