Dear Tamsin: I read your posting and phoned Alice at ITC to see what she
had to say. She did say that she wishes you would coat your kiln because
of all the benefits but didn't want you contravening your warranty. Some
kiln manufacturers might use this as a scapegoat for not standing behind
their product. I purchased a new ConeArt kiln from Tuckers Pottery Supply
and sprayed it immediately with ITC l00. I know Tuckers and they are a
very reputable kiln manufacturer and would not be looking for excuses.
Phone your kiln manufacturer to get their thoughts.
Axner is spraying his kilns at the factory with ITC 100 as a optional
service. I think it was wise of Alice to advise you to join the CYA Club. C
is for Cover, Y is for Your and I've forgotten what A is for.
If you bought a good kiln, I don't think you'll be claiming on the
warranty. They only offer warranties on the likelihood that you'll never
make a claim.
Cheers,
Tony
