itc, post firing.

My thanks to Nils Lou for the information about the ITC coating, also to
Mel Jacobson who gave information on his firings with it.

I sprayed my kiln (Bailey/with fibre), and fired it a week ago. I had my
best firing yet, mostly shino and some tenmoku. The firing was 2 hours
shorter, and I had to slow it right down at the beginning. Later, I did
turn the burners up to where I normally fire the kiln at. According to the
gauge on my propane tank, it used one half the amount of gas that I had
used priviously. I can hardly believe it so will know more when I fire
again.

What I like best is how it deals with the fibre. No more loose fibre
kicking around, and when I bump my head on the ceiling it's solid. Also no
more of those loose threads of fibre sifting down on my pots making ugly
marks.

A very interesting teapot glazed with tenmoku came out. The side facing
the back wall was black. The other side was brown. Due to the ITC on the
back wall? Tony Clennell clued in on that one.

Anyway I'm a believer, I even have the finer coating which I will apply in
a few more firings. I'll keep you posted. But I LOVE THIS STUFF. I'ts
going to save me money on gas, protect my kiln, coat my fibre so it isn't
so hazardous, AND improve my work. This stuff works!

Again for Canadians, Tony Clennell is the distributor. His e-mail is
clennell@bmts.com , and no1 I don't get a commission, it's just great
stuff.

Dear Ray: You'll have to wait a long time to see Liz's kiln after l00
hundred firings. She is our friend, makes nice pots but makes them SLOWLY!
Liz probably will fire her kiln a half dozen times this year, so I thought
I better give you the distributor for ITC in Australia. My bet would be
that coated fiber after a 100 firings would be in better shape than
uncoated insulating brick. Spray your brick kiln too! You'll probably save
up to 30% of your fuel costs. I have a vested interest in this stuff, since
I sold Liz the ITC material. Just wait till she puts the ITC 296 on the
kiln. I know she will be impressed and will tell the Clayarters about that
post firing. As I said, she is a friend!!!.
The distributor from the land down under is - Pinches Alloys, 21 Malua
Str., Reservoir 3073, Melborne, Australia Phone (03) 460 2466 or fax (03)
