a special thank you to dannon rhudy for her
wonderful sharing at hay creek. she was
a delight and is becoming a wonderful friend, and
of course a permanent hay creek learner.

sprayed itc on all kilns...it works.. our pots were better, richer,
and the glazes where different...subtle, yet different.
cannot chart the savings...the greedy people fired so fast
and so often that we lost track..but without question there was
a dollar saving/ my quess is about 20%. (we did a great deal
of candle firing over night so how can one measure that.)

the little kiln is just what we designed....fast fire to cone 6. stalls
at 8 and stays there. with the single brick walls, 1 inch fibre top
it just will not go any higher.

Now here is the firing schedule for the "best little kiln in the world"
load, start, 3 hours firing time to cone 6, off...three hours cooling and
take pots out... perfect deep reduction, 60/40 volcanic ash glazed ,perfect
maturation, good color...deep reds and purple./ not bad.
some pissing about why can it not go to cone 11...just won't.
it you want high fire, one must use double brick and brick top...so build a
different kiln...
we bisque fired in it about 4 times and it is wonderful...slow and easy,
and not a broken pot. we used small weed burners for
bisque and raku. dannon did her clay saggar fire and it worked
like a dream... what an idea..she is the "Edison" version
of clay invention. amazing what a smart indian woman can do.
i am a bit tired ,but energized...imagine having 30 guests for dinner
every night for almost three weeks..and they all did crafts all day. what a
gang of art maniacs...god i love them. we have cocktails
each evening at 5 and discuss a topic of interest...(art) it was
hard getting them to go to dinner some evenings.
glad to be back with all of you,
mel jacobson, minnesota, hay creek, wisconsin.
what we share and give to others, comes back ten fold....
if you want to learn about clay....get together with good potters.
if you want really nice pots..."have dannon glaze them for you",
i did and it worked. thanks again.

Suzanne, I did a very detailed explanation of that "paper saggar"
process on the clay list about a year ago; can you look in the
archives? I'm doing an article about it, but not done yet. Soon.
