i feel strongly that the reason i use itc is to get better pots....not save
15 cents. the reason we invest in good kilns, wheels, studios, is
to make good pots, to improve ourselves and our work.
the only time i really gag reading clayart is when i have to
listen to people crying about saving nickles and dimes......
where can i get it cheap, used, old...cheap? it often costs more to
repair and old crappy kiln than buy a new one...same with wheels.(see mark
wards post on this) and i felt the same way in 1960........i did not
build my first kiln
out of used, old, crappy bricks....i saved my dollars and bought
new....and it paid me back over and over. i paid for my studio
with the money made from selling pots.
i do not chart the cost of firing....it means very little....i sell
one pot from a firing and it pays for the gas and electricity. and
i am talking about 25 bucks. (i do chart good and bad pots and
how they were fired, very important to me.)
i try not to look at what i do as a hobby, i try to be serious about
making pots...try to be business like. but to run a business means
books, capital outlay, loss, and depreciation. and sometimes even
a small gain.
well, i have to get off of this soap box, it is getting sorta tippy
with this crowd up here.
