Jean Campbell on fri 14 feb 97

At last night's meeting of the CSGWA, Sandra Black announced that Joan
Campbell is seriously ill and is not expected to be with us much longer.
A retrospective exhibition of her work is to be opened at the Lawrence
Wilson Art Gallery at the W A University in April.
For this exhibition, Sandra is compiling a file of letters of tribute.
We are aware that Joan was held in high regard in Ceramic circles in the
U S of A and I am posting this message to give anyone who came in
contact with Joan during her several visits to the US, the opportunity
to contribute to this file.
ascii only please.
If at all possible reply by midnighht Tuesday WPT
J.Campbell (no relation).

Joan Campbell is one of the most inspiring speakers I have ever had the
privilege of listening to. At the 1985 National Ceramic Conference in
Melbourne Australia she spoke to a packed auditorium - people sitting on
the stairs and standing in the aisles- and she held us enthralled for over
two hours. Joan had an international reputation but this never went to her
head and her self efacing humility and sharing nature was an example to
us all.
Fortunately a video tape was made of that session and if I need a
personal pep talk I put it on and re-live that whole wonderful experience.
I thank God for role models like Joan. The ceramic world is certainly richer
because of people like her.
