I took a workshop with John Chalke a few years ago at Peters Valley, and
came away with such good impressions of the man and his message that I want
to alert the Clayart list that he'll be conducting a wood-firing workshop
in Calgary, Alberta, this summer (July 28 to August 3). John Chalke isn't a
household name in the U.S., but those in the U.K. and Australia know him as
a master potter eminently deserving of the title. You might want to check
his website:

Marjorie and clayarters: I sent a plug in for Johns course a week or so
ago. I think this course could be mind altering. The surfaces that many are
chasing at the present time have been Johns palette for the past 40 years.
Pictures of crawling in Fourniers Dictionary are pics of Johns pots.
Sometimes it is important to go to a workshop for technique but at other
times it is for the person that has techniques, but needs to listen to or
develop a philosophy. As I was told before by the Queen of technique-
philosophy doesn't sell.
If you have done your homework in the skills of the craft and need to hear
story after story of nearly 50 years of GOOD pots then this is for you.
I give this a ***** rating.
cheers,
tony
