Hello Clayarters,

It seems that I was misquoted regarding the Ohata Kaki glaze. My original
email follows. Just an aside, I worked with a very faomus potter and
teacher who remnamed the Ohata persimmon because he said it was not Khaki
( tan tending toward light olive drab just like his work pants). i'm sure
he was not the first and will obviously not the last to change teh name of
Ohata-san's glaze.

Dear Rapheal,

The Kaki as in Ohata Kaki is Japanese for persimmon and as such is a
orange-red iron saturate glaze. Khaki is a color that is closer to tan
toward olive drab. Thought would like to know. My athority is study of
Japanese language and 6+ months stay in Japan making pots.

BTW thank you for posting the glaze, several of my students will be
excited to try it. I will give them your entire post so they know it came
from you.

Sincerly,

Richard Mahaffey

I hope this straightens out what kaki is now to work on kakaoke (ka ra oh
kay).

Enough already ;}
