Clayarters :
Sorry, if I caused any confusion in my post regarding the Wild Rose
Tenmoku ^ 6 glaze.
Richard Mahaffey is quite correct in pointing out the difference between
a Khaki and Tenmoku. Khaki being orange/red and tenmoku is a dark
brown.
I was just going by the name that the person I got it from called it. From
now on I'll call it Gibby's Khaki. it's a very nice oxidation glaze and looks
great over or under the Falls Creek Shino from the CeramicsWeb/
Glazebase. Try it and see.
Speaking of Khaki and Tenmoku, someone on the list correct me if I'm
wrong about a particular family of ^ 10 glazes. A Celadon, Khaki, and
Tenmoku can be created from a single base, such as the Leach base,
just by increasing the amount of red iron oxide from 2%, 8%, and 10%.
Leach Base ^ 9-11 Reduction
Kaolin 10
Whiting 20
Flint 30
Potash Feldspar 40
Good luck!

In _A Potter's Book_, the above glaze is listed as a cone 8 Limestone
glaze. Leach says to add 1/2% china clay for every 1% RIOX added to
keep it at cone 8. At the Northern Clay Center, this is their studio
Temmoku (with 10% iron added, and no extra kaolin) fired to 9/10 and
students are always sticking their pots to the shelves with this
glaze. Iron is a flux in reduction.
