kiln building update and a question

Hello to those of you who've been following my kiln building exercise over
the last 2 years or so. A couple of milestones were reached in the last
week!

I (actually 6 of my closest friends and I) poured the 8'x8' slab which will
become the floor of my kiln shed. This is significant because short of
a jackhammer, it's the point of no return. My kids thought it was great fun
watching us wheelbarrow the concrete around the house, pour it in the form
and push it around, screed it float it, edge it...

I also finished the kiln frame and hood!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who thought the day would never come (besides my wife)? I haven't had the
heart to tell her I need to add one small detail - levellers... The form for
the kiln slab is level but somehow there is a small hump in the middle that
may cause the kiln frame to rock. So, a few holes, a few bolts welded on
and voila! Levellers. A minor setback, but a simple solution. I'm on a
first name basis with the guy in the bolt room at the local hardware store.
Bolts to hold the chimney frame to the main chamber frame. Bolts to raise,
lower and level the burner manifold. Bolts to hold the venting hood to the
frame. Heavy washers for door hinge spacers.

Now my question - I know I need to leave windows in the kiln shed walls for
ventilation and replacement air, but does it matter if they're up under the
eaves of the roof or down at ground level? Under the eaves is easy for
keeping out the rain. Leaving a gap at ground level is trickier.

Thanks,
Richard
(not looking forward to giving up welding...)
