I have a small updraft, natural gas kiln for sale. It has approx 11 cubic
feet of firing space, four burners, some shelves, posts etc. I am asking
$1200.00 for it. It is soft brick construction and movable is a small truck
in one piece. I have had if for a long time but started doing salt firing so
I havn't used it for four or more years. It fires great, good control and
easy reduction, can be fired on household pressure. Anyway, if anyone is
interested or needs more information let me know. I am near Boulder,
Colorado.

Thanks Nancy Utterback

Hi folks, the Stonington, Conn., pottery where I am taking classes has a
small kiln for sale. It is a Skutt model 181, probably about 5 cubic feet.
It stands maybe 3 feet high on its stand, and is perhaps 18 inches across.

It has a maximum fire temperature of cone 6, but is not firing to that
level, as the elements need to be replaced. Also, there is no furniture, no
shelves, you know, it's just an empty kiln.

But it's for sale for $75.

Call Mary Sanford at the Stonington Community Center, 860-535-2476, if you
want it.

Cheers!

A guy called me the other day with a kiln for sale. It is a big Skutt, he
says, model 1027-240, looks like a ^6??, from what he read to me, max temp
2350.

I have NOT seen this kiln, I can NOT vouch for it, but the guy says it is
in fine shape, though he doesn't know much about kilns.

It was given to him for something or other, and whatever it was he wanted
to do with it didn't work out, and he's an older guy and at any rate, he
wants to sell it for $650.

I do not know if he will move on the price.

At any rate, you can call him -- his name is Frank DiRoma, and he is in
Westerly, R.I. -- at 401-596-1782. He is home from work this week, and is
happy to talk to anyone about this, he told me.

Cheers,

Carrie

I am selling a gas kiln, round (approx 18 cu') with a three burner setup
below with bottleneck burners (not standard venturis) - and is set to
fire on Natural gas. Includes baso style safety shutoff, individual
burner valves, a main valve and a ribbon style pilot/warmup system (like
a small oven burner). The kiln is in Very very good condition. I
believe that it is made by Alpine. The kiln has 3 inches of softbrick,
three rings, and separate bottom and hinged top.

Make offers - the burner system alone is very nice and could be used for
other kilns of approximately the same size. You pick up in Western MA
- 10 minutes from I-90 and the NY border, 50 minutes from Pioneer
Valley.

Thanks, and hope this'll work out for someone - our kiln pad is not big
enough for another kiln!! Please Email me directly -

Hello Clayart,

I am putting together a pdf brochure with digital images on the kiln =
described below -- please drop me an email if you would like to receive =
the brochure.

Jeff Lawrence
jml@cybermesa.com

Kiln for sale: 80 usable cubic foot, natural-gas forced air fired =
downdraft kiln constructed of angle-iron frame supporting 2800 IFB floor =
and 8 inch ceramic fiber walls and top. Firing chamber is 64" long X 56" =
wide X 60" tall, and the setting footprint is six 20"X20" shelves (about =
30 used shelves and furniture included).
Forced-air burners are from Ward Burner Company, fitted with small pilot =
burners that also serve as candling burners (reach 300-400F in the =
morning after candling all night). The fuel (natural gas) is metered by =
an orifice valve for precise duplicability from firing to firing (screw =
valve goes from 0-max over sixteen revolutions). The ITC-100 coating on =
the interior surface of the fiber turned orange-tan after the first =
firing and looks unchanged now after 280 firings. The coating is crisp =
and the interior does not generate fiber dust.

Price: $9875, ($2,000 less than cost of materials).=20

Location: Espanola, New Mexico (20 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico)

Portability: My Texan engineer buddy who did the welding says "we could =
move it in a minute". With care, a forklift and a 16 foot lowboy flatbed =
trailer, I think he's right.=20

Other notes:
I posted the plans I used on www.digitalfire.com if you'd like to see =
how much work you would save by buying this one already put together. =
The design is the downdraft design from Nils Lou's book, "The Art of =
Firing," with two basic differences:
- I built an angle-iron frame that raises the whole firing chamber above =
the ground (better insulation and portability as a result)
- The four sides and top are single angle-iron framed units of 8" =
compressed fiber (monolithic fiber modules) that are welded to the =
frame. This means that there are only four interior joints to tend to as =
the fiber shrinks -- three around the top and three around the bottom. =
This compares favorably to the popular 12X12 fiber modules, where all =
the joints tend to grow as the fiber shrinks.

The fiber is very energy efficient -- it costs me $11-15 to fire to cone =
04, and $18-30 to fire to cone 6, depending on how long I soak, level of =
reduction, etc. The floor is 2800 IFB. I have records of 280 firings -- =
mostly cone 04 bisque, with some cone 6 reduction.

I fired to cone 10 a few times, and never had any problem getting to =
temperature, but my clay couldn't handle it and I didn't want to change =
bodies.

Problems:
- Needs a clamp on the top of the door (been using a wood-worker's clamp =
for the last two years and never took the next step)
- Needs a new side clamp (on hand) re-tapped=20
- The flue I built (9X9 interior) has always sucked too hard. Also, it =
means that the majority of damper control happens in the last two inches =
of insertion (thanks to Dave Finkelnburg for that insight). The flue is =
fire-clay mortared together and would have be dismantled anyway to move. =
I'd recommend building the fluebox with the hardbrick and going the =
route recommended on clayart of using smaller-bore fiberboard cylinders =
as a future flue.
- The brick in the flame paths is showing some wear -- I've given it a =
few coats of ITC 100 to cover the iron age-spotting.=20
- Early on, before I lined the flue opening, the stainless steel framing =
in the flue opening in the modules buckled a bit. Not an issue now.
- Firing caveat: go easy on the gas -- since getting the metering gas =
valve, I've seldom used even half the gas pressure (7 water column =
inches coming in). The burners give you enough power (500,000 each) to =
get as hot as you want as fast as you want, but usually at the cost of =
evenness and quality of ware. Slower usually means a better firing.

I have a full set of elements (brand new, still in packages) for this kiln (DK 1029/ DK 1020). I bought them and then decided to buy a new kiln and convert the Duncan to a raku kiln. If anyone is interested contact me and we can talk, trade and/or cash. Janet

I have a beautiful Skutt KS-1027 kiln, with Envirovent (still in the box)
and box full of kiln furniture for sale. The kiln is three years old but
has never been fired. Actually, it's never even been plugged in. The first
year I had it, it sat in its crate until the kiln room was finished. Since
then its been sitting in the corner, covered with furniture moving
blankets. It is, as you can imagine, in perfect condition. My health
prompts this sale. New would cost $2,050. I'm asking $1,500. I'm located
near Salem, Oregon. Please e-mail me directly with any questions you might
have. Thanks.

Dear Clayarters,

I am moving my studio closer to my home and need to sell my large Cone 10
L&L Kiln. I will be having chemicals for sale also a little later. The
kiln is easily moved but will have to be dismantled and picked up by the
purchaser. Remember, it has been "driven" by a little old lady and does not
have a lot of miles on it. It has served me well in firing my
production work as well as my big pieces. I love the ramping aspect of the
Controller. You can access the information by clicking on
http://pws.chartermi.net/~bstaffel/kiln.htm

I am taking offers and would love to see it go to a happy potter's studio to
continue producing great pottery. I live in the Charlevoix, MI area. Any
questions, please call or email me.

Regards, Bonnie Staffel

Dear Clayarters,

Posting to let you know that I have a very nice large kiln for sale suitable
for sculpture or production or large pots. It can be seen on the attached
URL. I am changing to new directions in my work, going into pit firing and
low fire copper reduction work. It is time to follow my dreams to
concentrate on new work in this territory. I am interested in receiving an
offer. Pick up is from Charlevoix, MI. The kiln is an L&L DaVinci with a
Dynatrol controller and kiln sitter/w/Timer. New elements just installed
and new board put in Dynatrol. Goes to Cone 9 in 8 hours. Any offer
considered. I would like to move from my old studio by the end of
September.

Thanks for looking and hope you can use this wonderful kiln.

I have a J230 L&L kiln for sale. It's 7 cu ft, older, and needs some work. I bought it from a college and haven't been able to use it because it needed to be hardwired. Now, I am moving to Alaska and it needs to find a new home. It will need some replacement brick and, not having fired it up, may need some other work but all parts are available through L&L. It is all manual.

I am in Freeport, Ohio (near Salt Fork Lake / Cambridge), and it will need to be picked up at my home (my husband has our truck already in Alaska). I am asking $500 but will consider any reasonable offer as it gets closer to moving day.

It is in good condition but needs elements.
I will not ship...you have to be willing to come get
it.
Anyone interested?

Cheryl,

Do you still have the Skutt 1027. I would be interested in more

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the market for a kiln so I've been watching Ebay etc faithfully of
late. Due to it's size, I thought I'd pass the following ad along to
interested Chicago area ClayArters. It doesn't have a reserve so it might
be worth the "looksee." Sounds like its ^14 forced draft gas. Probably 16
cu ft. Wish I were within 1000 miles of this or I'd go get it myself.

Maybe someone here needs it. Here's the item number on Ebay: 104752433770

Best,
Beth Eisenberg-Schapera

(PS. This is NOT my kiln for sale and unfortunately, I don't know anything
about it.)

Alpine Gas fired Industrial Production Kiln

Model HF-16
Serial #1776
Exterior dimensions: 63" x 57" x 36" deep (not including hood)
Interior dimensions: 42" x 36" x 23 1/2" - 26"
2 electric blowers

Due to sale of house this kiln, which cost several thousand dollars, will be
sold with no reserve to the high bidder who can remove it by July 30th, 2006
from Evanston, IL.

Kiln was purchased in the 1970's and used by a ceramic artist up until her
health failed recently. This is located in the basement of an Evanston
mansion and must be disassembled to be moved. Original owners manuals and
assembly instructions are included. Firebricks may be mortared and may need
to be disassembled to move. I know the bricks in the door stay put when
moving but I'm not sure about the sides and floor.

If this is like the Alpines we had at school in the
70's then there really isn't much point in
"disassembling" it. That steel frame is HEAVY DUTY.
If you can't get it out without disassembly, how did
they get it in? Build the mansion around it?
