i notice a lot of complaints about bricks settling or other problems
causing unwelcome drafts in the kiln, just dip glossy paper (cosmopolitan,
people, playboy) pages in slip and coat the surface where you suspect a
leak. a couple of layers of this should do the trick and probably won't
hurt the insulative properties of your kiln either. i've built entire kilns
this way(see "paper kilns" in ceramics monthly or give me a buzz) and they
have done quite well.
