kiln shelves...

While there is all this talk regarding Crystar and Advancer nitride bonded
shelves, let me again mention that there are other shelves available for
way under half the cost that are approximately the same weight and IMHO and
experience, last equally as long if not longer.

Two companies, notably Acme Marls and Hewitt Technical Ceramics, both from
the UK, produce excellent high quality alumina/corderite compositions. In
fact, my original 14 x 28 x 1 shelves purchased n the early 1980's from
Sphinx in Holland (now Hewitt) are still flat and going going strong. I
will soon have an order with Acme Marls for some new ones in one of their
Remcor compostions. These shelves and posts are used all over the world in
industrial applications and are very reasonably priced, even including the
crating and CIF charges from the UK.

I'd advocate these compostions both for longevity and price. Acme Marls has
a neat stacking post system using posts(also called props) of various
heights that interlock with each other. Quite nice for adjustable height
configurations on my car kiln.
