I have had problems with kiln wash not sticking to kiln shelves after I
have scraped and cleaned them. Is it my kiln wash or is there something I
could add to it to get it to stick? signed Crazy j.

You might try this....dip the shelf in water before you coat it with kiln
wash. It will dry more slowly...it may take a few coats to get a good
protective wash...but it has worked for me in the past. You could also
change the blend of silica/kaolin...intead of 50/50 (or whatever you
use...everyone has a favorite....I had good luck adding alumina to my
washes, too ) ...use less clay and a bit more silica. The idea is that the
wash with too much clay will shrink and chip and peel off more readily...so
you use less clay and more silica. If you buy you kiln wash in a bag that
says "kiln wash" just try adding some 200 or 325 mesh super-sil...like
maybe 10% and try that.

Kiln wash than is put on TOOOO thickly casn cause you peeling problems
also....so keep it about the thickness of a playing card.

Hope this helps...Do other have fool proof tips???

My favorite solution is to add white glue (Elmers). Combine volume
measurements of water 3:glue 1:your favorite dry kiln wash 4.
Thiscombination will allow the wash to flow on smoothly, dry hard so it
will not fall off on the ware, and is easily removeable after firing.
