I have a television about 4' from my electric kiln and it's showing
wierd color shifting. For instance, if it's supposed to have a blue
screen, the right side of the screen fades to red and the left to green.
The kiln is to the right of the tv. Is the kiln acting like and electromagnet?
I only fire maybe a dozen times a year. The tv is about 3 years old.
Is this just a dud tv?

What you are seeing is an effect of the magnetic field generated by the
coils in your kiln affecting the TVs picture tube. An electric heater with
coils will have the same effect if near enough. These tubes are very
delicately focused and any magnetic field will affect their alignment. The
field is not harmful to people, but if strong enough, can cause permanent
missalignment of the tube, resulting in color shifts. -Don-
