Hello all!

A friend mentioned that Hood College in Frederick, Maryland is presenting
Lana Wilson giving a one day (9-5) workshop on slab building entitled
something along the lines of "Innovative Construction using Soft Slabs"
(my paraphrase) Saturday, Septebmer 25th. She is going and I'm tempted to
go. The cost is $75.

I would appreciate any feedback about Lana Wilson as a one-day presenter
or about her work with slabs. I've enjoyed her book.

Bonnie Hellman in Pittsburgh, PA (about a 4 hour drive from Frederick, MD)

PS Would also appreciate any suggestions about inexpensive but safe motels

I got a bit of information at the ClayTimes web site:
http://www.whistlepig.com/claytimes
However, I don't recall if there were photos of Lana's work. Hope this
helps.

Lana Wilson makes wonderful hand constructed pots. If you have seen her
videos you will
no doubt see that she is an articulate and generous teacher. She presents
ideas in a very clear
and humorous way. Not only does she share her playful, creative way with
clay; she is also open
to learning from those around her. I think you will find her workshop well
worth the time and $$$.

I asked Joyce Michaud to give more info on the Lana Wilson Workshop and
also about housing on campus, and this is what she had to say. Too bad
they don't have any dorm space, it is a nice campus. There should be
motels in the area, tho--the campus is just to the east of Route 15 and
west of the quaint part of downtown Frederick. Interstate 70 is just a few
miles south of there. Enjoy.

Hi Everyone,
There are only 4 spaces left in Lana's workshop.

LANA WILSON: "INNOVATIVE HAND-BUILDING TECHNIQUES "
Sept 15-16, 2002
Sunday-Monday
Cost: $150
Demonstration workshop only

Lana Wilson is a gem. She has a great sense of humor and will keep you
laughing while learning. Lana creates highly textural forms using soft slabs
that she incises, stamps and stretches and then glazes with unique low-fire
glazes that are both colorful and textured. She is fascinated by artifacts and
ritual objects incorporating symbols that hobos used in the 1930's to convey
messages.

She pushes her materials, especially glazes and encorages others to do the
same. You'll leave this workshop inspired, encouraged and elated!

Lana is a featured writer for 'Clay Times'and author of "Ceramics: Shape &
Surfaces" and the video "Soft-Slab Handbuilding".
