Here is a glaze test from Behren's book which worked beautifully for me.

Behren's Yellow mat glaze (cone 05) (I used Laguna 05 white earthenware)
frit 54 pemco (I used frit 3134) 40.2
wollastonite 25.3
lithium carb 7.1
china clay 21.8
flint 5.6
vanadium stain 5

This produces a lovely satin mat citron yellow glaze.
I tested it also with mazarine blue stain and also copper carb (both 5%)
and results were equally as good.
Enjoy!

Yikes! Vanadium - Use only on the outside of functional ware. Glaze is
maginal at 05 and not durable at 04.

Not trying to be rude - just helpful.

Ron
Thanks! I didn't know about the vanadium being bad stuff for food - would
another stain (say like naples yellow) eliminate this problem? Or do all
yellow stains have vanadium? Thanks

Hi Sharon,

I believe you can get a safety information sheet from your supplier - they
are required by law to provide you with a list of the ingrediants ina
everything they sell.

I recommend The Artists Complete Health and Safety Guide by Monona Rossol
or Artist Beware by McCann. You will then have a good idea of what is safe.
If you need more information just let me know. There is also a small book
called Potters Beware put out by the New Zealand - jusy for potters - I got
my copy from the Potters Shop - about $15.
