Dear Ralph: I got to thinking about your shock at the price of ITC in
South Africa. Products most always cost more away from their country of
origin.Maple syrup is reasonably cheap here in Canada but probabably very
dear in Africa. Mangos can probably be picked by the wayside in your neck
of the woods and I'd have to sell my first born here in Canada to get one
in February. I believe we are getting our cobalt now from South Africa. Its
about 60-70 dollars per kilo and I might be low on that one. I'm almost
always afraid to look. I just use it, because I have certain applications
that require it. If you feel that the ITC products have an application for
you and your pottery then the price will be recovered through energy
savings or improved products. We have recovered the costs of spraying with
ITC through shorter firings and better qlazes. Maybe it will take you
longer to recover the costs of the ITC but then you probably don't have our
grocery bills for fresh fruit. You'll only have to spray the kiln once in
a blue moon and we eat fresh fruit every day.
I'll trade you a gallon of ITC for a nice warm sunny day in February when I
have to shovel a couple of feet of snow to get to the workshop.
There are trade offs.
Cheers,
Tony
