Hi all...I am enjoying the Chaco Canyon thread because I had the distinct
honor of having and hosting Mary Lewis Garcia, daughter of Lucy Lewis, in
1994 in my home while she was a presenter at the Fireworks '96 here in
Edmonton. We sat up nearly all night and talked...not about clay or
pots..but about family, kids, traditions, beliefs, mothers (ours) and
many related topics. She was a night owl like me and we got on great.
She is a great lady. It is nice to hear about the experiences of others
with this famous family. I have a standing invitation to come and work,
stay at 'Sky City' where Mary spends some of her time living. It is
wonderful that the native culture and the people are as appreciated as
some of the 'new commers' of the area and that folks speak about them in
reverence. ..."godess' hands" written by Don in his Chaco Canyon post.
It is also great that, in Mary's case, the students studying ceramics in
universitys in the area are coming to her home/studio to study rather
than she going to the univ. to teach. This is a gret honor for those
lucky students. If anyone is speaking with Mary in the future...please
give her a big hug from me...OK? The Chaco Canyon program sounds
wonderful. As Always in Clay Peggy
