Hi Margaret and all of you,

my first message didn=B4t make it to the list, so here=B4s my second try.
I=B4m new to clayart and like someone else on the list a couple of days ago,
I am real glad to finally be able to contribute with something. I=B4ve
stepped in to a new world with clayart, although uptil now I=B4ve only
listened, but by that I=B4ve learned a lot and enjoyed reading how things =
are
over there or where ever in the world you all are living in. The discussion
about ceramic arts (guess that should be clayart=21) not being as high =
valued
as other forms of art, goes on here as well. If I would make two exactly
alike sculptures, but one made of clay and the other one made of, say,
iron, the iron one would go for a much higher prize and be analyzed
and...respected. About the clay sculpture people would ask how you did it
at the most, but hardly ever what you wanted to express. Do I sound bitter?
Well, maybe I am, but just a little...

About mending bisque cracks=3B mix talc and waterglass and mend your cracks
or use it as glue for totally broken things. Let it dry, bisquefire once
again and then glaze and fire as if nothing ever happened. I don=B4t know =
the
exact proportions to use, I mix it thin if it=B4s a thin crack and sticky if
it=B4s a big one. For real big ones I=B4ve put some =22chamotte=22 in as =
well. (we
say chamotte in swedish, hope it=B4s a similar word in English) And also=3B =
at
any temperature up to 1260=B0C. Is that cone 7 maybe? (if red earthenware I
just put some iron oxide in the =22glue=22)
I teach evening classes for absolute beginners and this has saved many of
them from many heartbreaking disappointments. We=B4ve used this with =
allkinds
of mendings (bowls in two, plates and even glazed ware has been glued back
two one piece and fired once again)
Hope this will help someone. Margaret=3B please write me when you=B4ve tried=
it=21
