Hi All-

George Fishman (mosaics@bridge.net) recently sent me some info on his
suppliers and his process for mosaic and of course lots of pix of his
truly cool work. All will soon (gotta photograph just one more
project!) be available on Tiles On The Web, but I thought I'd extract
the suppliers info to answer Diane's question. I'll post to the list
when we get Geroge's pages finished.

Regards,

Tom Colson

Mosaic Suppliers info from George Fishman:

Dal-Tile distributes both sheet-mounted venetian-type and Byzantine
glass in bulk from a manuf. in Mexico. (Kolorines) Unfortuanately,
delivery is real spotty, always taking a month. It's clearly not a
priority for Dal, tho the people from Kolorines, whom I've met at tile
shows, are both very personable and seem to be entirely on the ball.

Bisazza manuf. and distributes sheet-mounted venetian glass through
numerous showroom links. Their nat'l no. is (305) 597-4099.

Mostly, I use unglazed 1x1 porcelains that I nip down to size. Fairly
good palette from Dal, AmOl Lonestar and others. The larger (2x2 and
up) can be first scored/snapped into 1/2 strips and then nipped.

He stocks about 60 colors of Orsoni? smalti from Venice, which he
sells in .25, .5 and 1kilo+ packages. Being able to get small
quantities of many colors is a real boon to artists, as you can
imagine, esp. as he doesn't charge a high premium for the small
quantities. Sven can also arrange drop shipment of Bisazza
venetian-type glass (mounted or unmounted). He's not currently
emailable (getting a new computer and new server, I think), but will
be. I've given him the site adress for when he does come online and
told him I'd give you his info meanwhile. (Give him a call, he's a
real enthusiast; the biz is secondary.)
