When I first started firing with natural gas I noticed a variety of
differences: flame colour, natural gas was cloudier; soot: natural gas
tended to give rise to soot more easily than propane; for similar
reduction I needed to have a denser, yellower flame in natural than in
propane. I always assumed natural gas had more "impurities" in it.
