Can somebody tell me the hotels that were recommended for NCECA a while ago.
There was much talk about one hotel, very close to Bally's and quite a bit
less expensive.

Thanks in advance (TIA),

Barbara,

I believe you may be referring to "The Imperial Palace". However, when I
checked there a few weeks ago, it was all booked up for the week during
NCECA.

Barbara -
There is abundant information on Las Vegas hotels on the internet. I am
staying at the Days Inn, which is right behind Ballys, and it is far less
expensive. I don't have the number, but you can get it from information.
At this point, it is unlikely that they have rooms left, but it's worth a
try. Good luck.

Hi, I'm not able to go to NECA, but I have stayed at a nice QUIET place
(off the beaten track / no casino) called St. Tropez that I liked very
much. It's kinda in between the airport and the convention center.

Change of Plans: I have confirmed reservations at both Ballys (April 2-5)
and Day's Inn (April 1-5). I'd be pleased to transfer them to anyone
looking for such a booking.

Thanks everyone, for helping me to remember where I had done these bookings.

Someone asked about hotels/motels for NCECA since the Hyatt is full.
Try Crown Plaza Hotel, 614/461-4100, or Courtyard/Marriott,
614/228-3200. You might try the Westin at 614/228-3800.

Usually there is someone one the board or with some relation to the NCECA
planning group that works with Minerva such as Louis Katz that may monitor
the list periodically. Or of course anyone on the list can call the NCECA
home office. I'll do that. Start the ball rolling.

I would seriously urge anyone from the above group to get the hotels to
bring more rooms into the NCECA block at rates that are reasonable.
Considering the economy now an that the travel and hospitality industries
are hurting big time, would it not be in their advantage to get with the
program to increase their business not actively decrease it?

BTW, thank you JimBob Salazar for such a wonderful post. He be da man!!

Catherine (and others needing to know about hotels):

The Convention Center is a part of the Town and Country Hotel. I work
right up the hill across the valley from the T&C. Other hotels in the area
include a Days Inn, a Quality Resort Hotel, Seven Seas Best Western,
Travelodge Mission Valley, Red Lion Hanalei Hotel, Extended Stay America,
Holiday Inn Select, Hawthorne Suites, Premier Inns. These are all right
around Hotel Circle.

A bit farther away, but still in Mission Valley: Hilton San Diego Mission
Valley (also one in Mission Bay, not too far away), Radisson, Marriott
Mission Valley

In Old Town (just two trolley stops away from the T&C) there are also
several places: Hacienda Hotel, Ramada Limited Old Town, Old Town Inn, Old
Town Plaza Hotel, Padre Trail Inn, Western Inn Old Town

Disclaimer: I am not familiar with some of these and don't know if any of
them are "fleabag motels" or how expensive they are. I just did a quick
look through the yellow pages. Hope it helps.

Dear Mel and clayarters,
I mistakenly deleted your message about getting a clayart hotel in Tampa.
However, these are my thoughts on the matter. One of the reasons that
NCECA and the hotels involved with that conference insist on charging one
for the first night if you cancel, is because of money. Mel and Joyce and
Laguna have been incredibly generous in the past, making sure that
clayarters have a space in a hotel. But what a headache. It simply is not
right that we ask them to shoulder the responsibility of getting us a good
deal at a hotel. There is a good deal for a hotel, and it happens to be on=
e
of the hotels that NCECA has arranged for its members. The two hotels are
very close to the conference and are offered at a good rate. $159 and $169=
.
That may sound expensive to you, but the regular rates for the hotels is
well over $200. Check out the NCECA web-site << www.nceca.net >>and have a
look at the hotels. Clayarters can still get together with a little
organization if we stay at one of these hotels.
Mel, I just want you to know that you have been over the top at organizing
the clayart hotel and activities and now I think that you should not have t=
o
worry over it, and a belated thank you for all the work that you have done
for all of us.
Everyone out there, enjoy the season,
Liz
freezing out and snowing, and glad I don't have to shovel snow in Mn.

Hotels cost so much and Clayart rooms are so hard to come by because =3D
NCECA insists on having their conferences at big cities known for =3D
tourism. Many of the participants don't have to pay their own way to =3D
the conference so it becomes a paid vacation. For the working artist =3D
it's much more difficult. Their are lots of less expensive alternatives. =
=3D
For instance, here in Ann Arbor we have a community college with a =3D
great conference center. It is rented out to many groups, big and =3D
small. The Plumbers and Pipefitters Union holds their annual conference =3D
here. An abundance of motels and restaurants available from Motel 6 to =3D
Hilton. I'm sure there are lots of other community colleges with similar =
=3D
facilities. But, what they don't offer is the tourist location. The same =
=3D
thing happens with other professions. My brother belongs to the =3D
Librarian's Association. One year the conference was set for Hawaii. His =
=3D
library balked at the price and he didn't go.=3D20

What do you think of the Howard Johnson Plaza hotel as a choice for
NCECA? From a map, it appears to be within easy walking distance.

Thanks,
