A guest artist is comming to SFA to teach us how to soda fire. My
instructor has made it my job to find glazes for this soda firing that
the whole advanced class can use. I have already received a few recipies
from the guest artist that is visiting, but am still in search for more.
Does anyone have any good cone 10 recipies for soda firing that they are
willing to share?
Thanks,

Rebecca,
Is it only GLAZES you're looking for? You can get some great results in
soda firing by using SLIPS-- glaze is formed by the soda vapour acting on
the slips. (of course, glazes are still needed for insides of vessels where
the soda vapour doesn't reach). High kaolin (ie high alumina) slips will
give you yellows, oranges and reds, with no colourant additions needed. As
with salt firing, additions of colourants will give the following:
cobalt--blues
rutile--golds
iron--browns
manganese--purple/brown/black
Your guest artist should be able to advise you on slips for soda firing
using American materials.
Good luck.
